Alignment Teacher Training

We offer 200-hour Alignment Yoga teacher training every year.

Thank you for examining Alignment Yoga’s Advanced Studies/Teacher Training Program. Whether you desire a deepening understanding of your practice and/or aspire to teach, we have the experience and expertise to facilitate your growth.

Many yoga schools teach the outer form of yoga postures (a knee here, an elbow there…), but neglect teaching the art of modifying the techniques to the needs of individuals. We emphasize that form follows function in the practice of Hatha Yoga. Rather than memorizing endless names and details, you will be encouraged to think for yourself as you refine your observational skills. We firmly believe, to paraphrase the old adage, it’s better to teach a man to fish than to simply give him a fish to eat.

What Sets us Apart
Alignment Yoga is the most experienced yoga training school in Wisconsin, having offered advanced programs since 2003, with approval from the Yoga Alliance. In addition to our quality instructors and low student-teacher ratio (10:1), we have placed emphasis in the following areas:

Deep understanding of body mechanics
We offer teachers a thorough foundation in anatomy so they can decide whether an instruction is biomechanically sound.

Modern approach
Alignment Yoga offers an innovative approach that combines the Eastern approach of yoga with Western, modern-day needs.

Pedagogical training
Our program helps teachers understand different students’ needs and how to adjust to meet them in a class setting.

Informed by medically researched modalities
Our approach has been refined by the understandings of Physical Therapy, Sensory Integration, Functional Strength Training, Pilates, Anatomy Trains, Rolfing, Craniosacral Therapy, Contemplative Neuroscience, Ayurveda, Meditation, Zero Balancing, Early Childhood Development and Educational Psychology.

Julia Siporin and Jennifer Jamieson are the lead instructors, with Diane Butera assisting. Julia came to yoga in 1973 and meditation in 1975. Yoga helped her deal with stress and teach more effectively during her 26-year career as an elementary school teacher and team leader. After retiring, Julia graduated from Sarahjoy Marsh’s 200 hr YTT and infused daily Lifeskills and Yoga philosophy into her classes. Ever the life-long learner, Julia became enamored with the strong anatomy components of Alignment Yoga. She graduated from both of Scott Anderson’s 200 hr and 500 hr Alignment Yoga Teacher Trainings. She taught the Alignment Yoga 200 hour teacher training in 2016 and 2017, assisted in the Alignment Yoga 500 hour training, and will lead the AY 500 hour training beginning the Fall of 2018. She is registered as an E-RYT 500 and YACEP with Yoga Alliance.

Jennifer Jamieson is a yoga educator who brings wisdom, kindness, and inquiry to the mat. She blends heartfelt yoga philosophy, and asana, with the intelligence of the biomechanics of the body. She skillfully teaches to a diversity of students, enabling each to find ease and confidence on the mat. Her ability to take her life experiences as a single mother of two brings community and connection to the yoga experience. She did completed her YTT 200 with Sarahjoy Marsh and studied with Scott Anderson for her YTT 500. She is a registered and certified yoga therapist through the IAYT (International Association of Yoga Therapy), has been practicing yoga for 20 years and teaching for 10.

Diane Butera offers foundational tools of functional alignment and authentic breathing, to guide her students of every age and fitness level, to build resilience of body, mind and spirit.
